Question 1

Which is the best engine for a used Audi A3?

Accepted Answer

For mixed driving the 1.5 TFSI, from 2017, is smooth and can shut down two cylinders when cruising. High-mileage drivers do better with the 2.0 TDI, while the 1.6 TDI is cheaper to buy but slower.

Question 2

Is a used Audi A3 g-tron on methane worth buying?

Accepted Answer

It makes sense where methane stations are close, as the fuel is cheap and most regions charge dual-fuel cars a flat bollo rate per kW. Check the expiry date of the methane cylinders, shown on the Documento Unico.

Question 3

What problems does the Audi A3 have?

Accepted Answer

On S tronic versions the seven-speed dry-clutch gearbox can judder if neglected, and TDIs used mainly in town tend to clog the particulate filter and EGR valve. On a second-generation Euro 5 TDI, check that the dieselgate software update was done.

Question 4

How much does a new Audi A3 cost?

Accepted Answer

The new A3 is sold as the Sportback, Sedan and allstreet with 116 and 150 hp TFSI and TDI engines and, on the Sportback, the 204 or 272 hp e-hybrid plug-in, in Business to S line trims. Each version is at Audi's list price beside the used cars.
