Do electric cars pay the bollo in Bergamo?

No: Bergamo is in Lombardy, where electric, hydrogen and gas-only cars are exempt from the bollo for good. Hybrids and dual-fuel cars pay a flat €2.58 per kW, whatever their Euro class.

Is a 4x4 worth buying for Bergamo's valleys?

It helps in the upper Seriana and Brembana valleys, where the roads to the ski areas see snow every winter. Winter tyres or chains on board are required on many mountain roads in the cold months, four-wheel drive or not.

Is there a discount on the bollo in Bergamo?

Yes, Lombardy takes 15% off the bollo when it is paid by bank direct debit. The tax itself is charged at the national base rates, on the car's kW and Euro class.
