Question 1

Which used BMW X3 generation should I buy?

Accepted Answer

The G01, built from 2017 to 2024, has Euro 6 engines, an eight-speed automatic and, from 2020, mild-hybrid diesels. An F25 from 2010 to 2017 costs less; prefer one built from 2014, with the B47 diesel instead of the earlier N47.

Question 2

What problems does the BMW X3 20d have?

Accepted Answer

The N47 diesel in X3s up to 2014 is known for timing-chain wear, heard as a rattle from the back of the engine. The later B47 is more robust; on any 20d used mostly in town, check the particulate filter and EGR valve.

Question 3

Does a used BMW X3 pay the superbollo?

Accepted Answer

Only above 185 kW: the M40i, M40d and X3 M do, as does the G01 xDrive30d. A 20d or 20i stays well below, and the surcharge falls after five, ten and fifteen years from construction and ends at twenty.

Question 4

Is it worth buying a new BMW X3 instead of a used one?

Accepted Answer

A new X3 has xDrive and an automatic on every version, as the 20 xDrive petrol, 20d and 40d diesels, 30e plug-in hybrid and M50, plus the factory warranty. A used G01 has similar engines and has already taken its steepest depreciation.
