Question 1

Is a used BMW plug-in hybrid worth buying?

Accepted Answer

It pays off when charged often, at home or at work, so that daily trips run on electricity. Driven without charging, it carries the battery's weight and uses more fuel than a diesel.

Question 2

How do I check the battery of a used BMW 330e or 530e?

Accepted Answer

Ask a BMW workshop for a battery check and compare the electric range with the original figure. Also check the remaining warranty on the high-voltage battery, and that the charging cable comes with the car.

Question 3

Do hybrid BMWs pay less bollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

In many regions a hybrid pays one flat rate per kW, whatever its Euro class, and some regions exempt hybrids for a few years. The rule depends on the owner's region and the car's registration date.

Question 4

How much does a new BMW hybrid cost?

Accepted Answer

New BMW hybrids are plug-ins, from the 2 Series Active Tourer, 3 Series and X1 to the 5 and 7 Series and the X5, plus the M5 and XM. Each version is shown at BMW's official list price beside the used hybrids.
