Question 1

Is it worth buying a used car on the mainland and bringing it to Catania?

Accepted Answer

Only if the saving covers the trip: the car has to cross the Strait of Messina by ferry, and a seller far away is harder to reach if a fault appears. The IPT is the same either way, because it follows the buyer's province.

Question 2

How much is the bollo on a used car in Sicily?

Accepted Answer

Sicily applies the national base rates, charged on the car's kW and Euro class. Dual-fuel and alternative-fuel cars pay a flat €2.58 per kW.

Question 3

Do electric cars pay the bollo in Catania?

Accepted Answer

Electric, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen cars newly registered in Sicily from 2026 to 2028 are exempt for five years. An older used electric follows the national rule: five years exempt from first registration, then a quarter of the rate.

Question 4

Where can a car have its revisione in the province of Catania?

Accepted Answer

At the Motorizzazione civile or at a garage authorised by the province. The first revisione is due four years after first registration, then every two, and the last one is recorded on the Documento Unico.
