Question 1

Which used Citroën C4 engine is most reliable?

Accepted Answer

The BlueHDi diesels, 1.6 on the second generation and 1.5 on the third, are generally robust if the particulate filter and AdBlue system were looked after. The 1.2 PureTech petrol needs its timing belt, which runs in oil, changed on time.

Question 2

Which Citroën C4 gearboxes should I avoid?

Accepted Answer

On the second generation, the EGS and ETG6 robotised manuals are slow and jerky, and costly when the actuator fails. The EAT6 and, on the third generation, the EAT8 torque-converter automatics are the smoother choices.

Question 3

Is a used Citroën ë-C4 a good buy?

Accepted Answer

The early ë-C4 has 136 hp and a 50 kWh battery; a 156 hp version with a larger battery came later. Ask for a battery health report, since the battery warranty runs longer than the car's general cover.

Question 4

How much does a new Citroën C4 cost?

Accepted Answer

The new C4 and C4 X are sold as the Hybrid 110 and 145 with the e-DCS6 automatic and as the electric ë-C4 of 136 or 156 hp, each trim at Citroën's list price beside the used cars.
