Question 1

Which is the best engine for a used Fiat 500?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 Fire petrol is the simplest and cheapest to keep. The 1.0 Hybrid, from 2020, uses less fuel in town, while the two-cylinder 0.9 TwinAir is lively but sensitive to servicing and oil level.

Question 2

Is the Dualogic gearbox on the Fiat 500 reliable?

Accepted Answer

It is an automated manual, not a true automatic, and its clutch and hydraulic actuator wear. On a test drive, look for jerky changes or slow engagement, and ask whether the actuator or its pump has been replaced.

Question 3

Is a used Fiat 500e worth buying?

Accepted Answer

For town and suburban driving, yes, especially with the 42 kWh battery. Ask for a battery state-of-health report and check that the charging cable comes with the car.

Question 4

How much does a new Fiat 500 cost?

Accepted Answer

The new 500 comes as the 500 Hybrid, with a 65 hp 1.0 and a manual gearbox, and as the electric 500e with 95 or 118 hp, as hatchback, 3+1 and Cabrio, each version at Fiat's list price beside the used cars.
