Question 1

Which engine is best on a used Fiat 500L?

Accepted Answer

The 1.3 Multijet diesel is the most common and suits high mileage, while the 1.4 petrol is fine for shorter trips. The 0.9 TwinAir struggles with such a heavy body, and its real fuel use is high.

Question 2

What is the difference between the Fiat 500L, Living, Trekking and Cross?

Accepted Answer

The Living is longer, with a bigger boot and an optional third row. The Trekking, followed by the Cross after the 2017 facelift, has a raised, rugged look and an electronic traction aid, but only front-wheel drive.

Question 3

Is the Fiat 500L reliable?

Accepted Answer

It uses proven Fiat mechanicals, and the 1.3 Multijet lasts well if its filter and EGR valve are looked after. Check the electrics and the infotainment screen, and on automated versions the gearbox.

Question 4

Is the Fiat 500L a good family car?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for a small family: the tall body gives generous headroom, wide doors make child seats easy to fit, and the large windows give good visibility. Seven seats need the Living.
