Which gearbox does a manual Fiat 500L have?

A five-speed manual on most smaller engines and a six-speed on some more powerful ones, such as the 1.6 Multijet. On a test drive, check that every gear engages cleanly, reverse included.

What should I check on the clutch of a manual Fiat 500L?

A clutch that bites high, or judders pulling away on a hill, is near replacement. On the diesels, also listen for knocks at idle that point to a worn dual-mass flywheel.

Is a manual Fiat 500L diesel good for long trips?

Yes, the 1.6 Multijet is relaxed at motorway speeds and the 1.3 is economical, if less powerful. A later Euro 6 diesel faces fewer city restrictions than a Euro 5 one.

From €1,500 to €24,659, half under €8,500 · Typically 2016 with 130,000 km. Nearly every used 500L has a manual gearbox, five or six-speed depending on the engine, as automated versions were a minority. On a car this heavy, the clutch works hard in town and with a full load, so its condition matters most.
