Question 1

Which used Hyundai models come with a manual gearbox?

Accepted Answer

The i10, i20, Bayon, i30, ix20, Kona, ix35 and Tucson were all sold with manuals, mostly on petrol, LPG and diesel engines. Hyundai's hybrids and electric cars are automatic only.

Question 2

What is the iMT gearbox on a Hyundai?

Accepted Answer

The iMT is a manual gearbox whose clutch is operated electronically rather than by a cable or hydraulics, fitted to some 48-volt mild hybrids. You still use the pedal and lever, but the car can declutch and switch the engine off when you lift off.

Question 3

What should you check on a used manual Hyundai?

Accepted Answer

Check the clutch: a bite point high in the pedal travel or slipping in a high gear means it is worn. On the diesels, listen for rattle at idle that may come from the dual-mass flywheel, which is replaced with the clutch.

Question 4

Is a new Hyundai still sold with a manual gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the i20, Bayon, i30, Kona and Tucson are sold new with a manual and the 1.0 or 1.6 T-GDi petrol engine. The LPG versions of the i20, Bayon and Kona are manual too, each listed at Hyundai's price.
