Is the DDCT gearbox on the Jeep Renegade reliable?

The six-speed DDCT dual-clutch is generally sound on cars driven gently. Test it cold while manoeuvring: judder or hesitation when pulling away calls for a check of the clutches.

Which automatic gearbox do the 4x4 Jeep Renegade and Compass have?

Most have the nine-speed automatic, paired with Active Drive four-wheel drive on the 2.0 MultiJet and the more powerful petrols. Ask whether the gearbox software is up to date, as early cars could shift abruptly.

Is a used Jeep 4xe always automatic?

Yes, the Renegade and Compass 4xe plug-in hybrids are automatic only. An electric motor on the rear axle gives them four-wheel drive without a propshaft.

Which new Jeeps have an automatic gearbox?

The new Compass with the 145 hp 1.2 Hybrid 48V, the 225 hp plug-in hybrid and electric versions from 213 to 375 hp, and the Avenger e-Hybrid, 4xe and electric. The Renegade comes as the 1.5 Hybrid 48V or the 240 hp 4xe.
