Question 1

What is the difference between the old and the new Land Rover Defender?

Accepted Answer

The classic Defender has a ladder chassis and rigid axles and was built until 2016, its last versions with a 2.2 diesel. The Defender launched in 2020 has an aluminium monocoque, independent suspension and modern diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrid engines.

Question 2

Which Land Rover Defender pays the superbollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

Any version over 185 kW. The D200 and D250 diesels stay below the limit, while the D300 and D350 diesels and the P300, P400 and V8 petrols pay it every year, less after five, ten and fifteen years from construction, and nothing after twenty.

Question 3

What should you check on a used Land Rover Defender?

Accepted Answer

On a Defender from 2020, ask an authorised workshop whether the software updates and recall work have been done, and test the air suspension where fitted. On a classic, look for corrosion in the chassis and the bulkhead.

Question 4

Which engines does the new Land Rover Defender have?

Accepted Answer

The new Defender comes as a 90, 110 or 130 with D200, D250 and D350 mild-hybrid diesels, a P380 mild-hybrid petrol, a 300 hp plug-in hybrid and the V8 OCTA, all with an automatic gearbox. Trims run from S through X-Dynamic SE and HSE to X and Vertex.
