Question 1

What problems does the Land Rover 2.0 Ingenium diesel have?

Accepted Answer

On early engines the timing chain can stretch, so listen for a rattle at start-up and ask whether it has been replaced. Cars used only for short trips also tend to dilute their oil and clog the particulate filter.

Question 2

Is the Land Rover TDV6 diesel reliable?

Accepted Answer

The 2.7 and 3.0 TDV6 are smooth and strong, but crankshaft failure is a known weak point, often linked to stretched oil-change intervals. A full service history with regular oil changes is the best protection.

Question 3

Can a used Land Rover diesel enter Milan's Area B?

Accepted Answer

Area B bars diesels of the older Euro classes, with bans that spread to newer ones over the years. Check the Euro class on the Documento Unico and the City of Milan's calendar before buying.

Question 4

Which diesel engines do new Land Rovers have?

Accepted Answer

The Evoque, Discovery Sport and Velar offer the 2.0 four-cylinder diesel at 163 or 204 hp, while the Velar, Defender, Discovery and both Range Rovers use the 3.0 six-cylinder, from 200 to 350 hp. All are automatic, each at Land Rover's list price.
