Question 1

Which petrol engine suits a used Mercedes A-Class?

Accepted Answer

The A 180 and A 200 are enough for most drivers and keep the bollo moderate. The A 250 adds a 2.0 with much more power, while the AMG models are performance cars with running costs to match.

Question 2

Does the Mercedes-AMG A 35 or A 45 pay the superbollo?

Accepted Answer

Yes, both exceed 185 kW, so they pay €20 for each kW above that every year on top of the bollo. The surcharge falls after five, ten and fifteen years from construction and ends after twenty.

Question 3

Is a petrol A-Class better than a diesel for Italian cities?

Accepted Answer

For mostly urban driving, yes: a petrol engine has no diesel particulate filter to clog on short trips. In zones such as Milan's Area B, older diesels are also restricted before petrol cars of the same Euro class.

Question 4

How much does a new petrol Mercedes A-Class cost?

Accepted Answer

The new petrol A-Class comes as the A 180 and A 200, the A 250 4MATIC and the AMG A 35 and A 45 S, from 136 to 421 hp, all automatic. Each version is shown at Mercedes' list price beside the used cars.
