Question 1

Which diesel Mercedes GLA is best to buy used?

Accepted Answer

The second-generation 200 d or 220 d, from 2020, with the 2.0 four-cylinder and AdBlue, which meets the later Euro 6 stages. In the first generation, the 2.1 of the 200 d and 220 d suits motorway driving better than the 1.5.

Question 2

What problems does the Mercedes GLA diesel have?

Accepted Answer

Driven mostly in town, any diesel GLA can clog its particulate filter and EGR valve, because short trips stop the filter regenerating. On second-generation cars, also ask about the AdBlue system's sensors and pump.

Question 3

Do Italian low-emission zones restrict a diesel Mercedes GLA?

Accepted Answer

Some do: Milan's Area B, for one, bars older diesels on a timetable set by Euro class. Check the Euro class on the Documento Unico against the rules of the city where you will drive.

Question 4

How much bollo does a Mercedes GLA diesel pay?

Accepted Answer

The bollo is charged on the GLA's kW and Euro class at the rate of the owner's region, under the same rules as a petrol car of that power. No diesel GLA reaches the 185 kW above which the superbollo applies.
