Question 1

What should you check on a used Mercedes SLK's folding roof?

Accepted Answer

Run the roof through several full cycles: it works by hydraulics and sensors, and a slow or stuck movement often points to a leaking pump or ram, or a faulty sensor. Also look for water in the boot and footwells.

Question 2

Does a used Mercedes SL pay the superbollo?

Accepted Answer

Most do: every V8 and V12 SL exceeds 185 kW, so it pays €20 a year for each kW above that. The surcharge falls to 60% five years after construction, 30% after ten and 15% after fifteen, and ends at twenty.

Question 3

Which Mercedes convertibles have four seats?

Accepted Answer

The C, E, S and CLE Cabriolets and the CLK have four seats, while the SLK and SLC are strict two-seaters. The current SL, from 2022, has two small rear seats again.

Question 4

How much does a new Mercedes SL or CLE Cabriolet cost?

Accepted Answer

Both are sold new at Mercedes' list price, all with an automatic gearbox: the Mercedes-AMG SL as a high-power roadster, the CLE Cabriolet with petrol, diesel and hybrid engines. Each version sits beside the used convertibles.
