Which Mercedes models were sold with a manual gearbox?

Mainly the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA, plus older C-Class and E-Class versions with the smaller engines. The more powerful versions and most 4MATIC models were automatic only.

Is a manual Mercedes cheaper to run than an automatic?

Usually yes: it avoids the cost of a dual-clutch or automatic gearbox repair, and a clutch is cheaper to replace. On diesels, check the clutch bite point and listen for a worn dual-mass flywheel rattling at idle.

Is a manual Mercedes harder to sell later?

It can take longer, since most buyers of the brand expect an automatic. The other side is that a manual usually costs less to buy at the same age and mileage.
