Question 1

Is a used Mini Countryman ALL4 a real four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

ALL4 is an on-demand all-wheel drive: the car runs mostly on its front wheels and sends torque to the rear when grip runs out. It helps on snow and wet mountain roads, but the Countryman is not an off-roader.

Question 2

How practical is a used Mini Countryman?

Accepted Answer

It is the most practical Mini, with five doors and room for adults in the back. The 2017 generation added space over the first, and the 2024 one grew again, with a bigger boot.

Question 3

Which used Mini Countryman generation should I choose?

Accepted Answer

The 2010–2016 car is the cheapest, but on its 1.6 petrol engines ask for proof of timing chain work. The 2017 car brings BMW's newer three- and four-cylinder engines and a plug-in hybrid, and the 2024 car adds electric versions and a round central screen.

Question 4

Is it worth buying a new Mini Countryman rather than a used one?

Accepted Answer

A new Countryman brings the factory warranty and the latest generation, electric E and SE ALL4 included, while a used one costs less but is usually smaller. The new range runs from the One petrol to the John Cooper Works ALL4, all automatic or electric.
