Question 1

Is a used Mini diesel worth buying?

Accepted Answer

It is for high-mileage drivers, especially in the larger Countryman and Clubman, where the 2.0 diesel pulls well. For short town trips a petrol Mini is the better choice, as the particulate filter needs longer runs to regenerate.

Question 2

Can a Mini diesel enter Milan's Area B?

Accepted Answer

Area B bans diesels of the older Euro classes on a calendar that widens over the years, so older Mini diesels are affected first. Check the Euro class on the Documento Unico and the City of Milan's current rules.

Question 3

Which Mini diesel engine is the most reliable?

Accepted Answer

The BMW 1.5 and 2.0 diesels of the cars from 2014 have a good record if their oil was changed on time. On the earlier 2.0 diesels, from BMW's N47 family, ask whether the timing chain has been checked, as it is known to wear.

Question 4

Does a Mini diesel pay more bollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

No, the bollo depends on kW and Euro class, not fuel, so a Euro 6 Mini diesel pays the same as a petrol Mini of the same power. The rate is set by the owner's region.
