Question 1

What problems do Mini 1.6 petrol engines have?

Accepted Answer

The 1.6 fitted to Minis from 2006 to 2013, developed with PSA, is known for a stretching timing chain, often heard as a rattle on a cold start. The turbo version in the Cooper S can also build carbon on its valves and burn oil.

Question 2

Is the Mini 1.5 three-cylinder petrol engine reliable?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the BMW 1.5 turbo in the One and Cooper from 2014 has a far better record than the older 1.6. It is smooth and economical, and the 2.0 four-cylinder in the Cooper S comes from the same engine family.

Question 3

Which used Mini pays the superbollo?

Accepted Answer

Only versions above 185 kW, such as the 306 hp John Cooper Works GP and the John Cooper Works Clubman and Countryman of the same power. The usual 231 hp John Cooper Works stays below the threshold and pays only the bollo.

Question 4

Which new Mini models have a petrol engine?

Accepted Answer

The Cooper with three or five doors, the Cabrio, the Countryman and the sportier Cooper S, all with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Each version can be compared at Mini's list price beside the used cars.
