Question 1

How much does it cost to register a new car in Italy?

Accepted Answer

On top of the car's price you pay IPT, set by its kW and your province, plus about €127 of fees, stamp duty and plates. The dealer usually handles the paperwork.

Question 2

Do new electric cars pay the bollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

By national law an electric car is exempt from the bollo for five years from first registration, then pays a quarter of the rate. Some regions, such as Lombardy and Piedmont, exempt it for good.

Question 3

What is the difference between a new car and a km 0 car in Italy?

Accepted Answer

A km 0 car has already been registered by the dealer and is sold as used with almost no mileage, usually below list price. A new car is registered in the buyer's name and can be configured.

Question 4

Is it better to buy a new or a used car in Italy?

Accepted Answer

A new car has the manufacturer's warranty and the specification you chose, but loses more value in its first years. A recent used car costs less and often keeps part of its factory warranty.
