Question 1

Which new BMW models are sold in Italy?

Accepted Answer

The 1 to 7 Series, the X1 to X7 SUVs and the XM, the electric i and iX models, and the M2, M3, M4 and M5. Most models come with a choice of petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid or electric power.

Question 2

Do new electric BMWs pay the bollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

By national law an electric car is exempt for five years from first registration, then pays a quarter of the rate, and Lombardy and Piedmont exempt it for good. While a car is exempt from the bollo, it owes no superbollo either.

Question 3

Do powerful BMWs pay the superbollo?

Accepted Answer

Yes, every car over 185 kW pays the state surcharge on top of the bollo, in full from its first registration, which takes in the M models and the most powerful six- and eight-cylinder versions. It falls as the car ages and ends after twenty years.

Question 4

Is it better to buy a new or a used BMW in Italy?

Accepted Answer

A new BMW has the factory warranty and the specification you choose, but loses more value in its first years. A recent used one, or a km 0 car registered by a dealer, costs less and often keeps part of its warranty.
