Question 1

Which new BMW models are sold with a diesel engine?

Accepted Answer

The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 Series and the X1, X2, X3, X5, X6 and X7, with four- or six-cylinder engines depending on the model. Every diesel version has an automatic gearbox.

Question 2

Is a new diesel BMW still a good choice in Italy?

Accepted Answer

For high-mileage motorway driving, a diesel uses less fuel than a petrol car of similar power. In cities such as Milan, Area B restricts diesels on a calendar that widens over the years, so check the rules where you drive.

Question 3

Does a new diesel BMW pay more bollo?

Accepted Answer

No, the bollo is charged on kW and Euro class, not fuel, at the rate of the owner's region. A version over 185 kW also pays the superbollo, in full from its first registration.

Question 4

Should I buy a new or a used BMW diesel?

Accepted Answer

A new diesel BMW has the factory warranty and the latest Euro class, which matters for city access rules. A used one a few years old costs much less, but check its AdBlue system and particulate filter, especially after mostly urban use.
