Question 1

Which new BMWs have a petrol engine?

Accepted Answer

Most of the range: the 1 to 5 and 7 Series, the X1 to X7 and the M2, M3, M4 and X6 M. Engines go from three cylinders in the smallest models to six and eight in the most powerful.

Question 2

Can you still buy a new BMW with a manual gearbox in Italy?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but only on a few petrol versions; every other new BMW is automatic. Today the manual is a choice for driving enthusiasts rather than a way to save money.

Question 3

Do BMW M models pay the superbollo?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with well over 185 kW every M model pays the state surcharge on top of the bollo, in full from first registration. It falls only as the car ages, ending twenty years after it was built.

Question 4

How much IPT does a new petrol BMW pay?

Accepted Answer

IPT is set by the car's kW and the buyer's province, so a powerful M car pays several times what a three-cylinder 1 Series does. Most provinces add 30% to the national tariff, and the dealer usually handles the payment.
