Question 1

Do new electric cars pay the bollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

By national law an electric car pays no bollo for five years from first registration, then a quarter of the rate. Lombardy and Piedmont exempt it for good, and Aosta Valley for eight years.

Question 2

Do electric cars pay less IPT in Italy?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the province, as reductions are set locally. Cremona and Pavia halve the tax for electric cars, Naples drops its surcharge and Bari charges 75%, so check your own province before you count on it.

Question 3

What differs between the versions of a new electric car?

Accepted Answer

Mainly the battery size, which sets the range, and whether there is one motor or two, since dual-motor versions add all-wheel drive. Fast-charging power can also differ between versions of the same car.

Question 4

Is it better to buy a new or a used electric car in Italy?

Accepted Answer

A new electric car has the full factory warranty, and the battery is usually covered for eight years. Electric cars lose value quickly in their first years, so a recent used one with a battery health report can cost far less.
