Question 1

Which new saloons are on sale in Italy?

Accepted Answer

The range runs from the Skoda Octavia, Audi A3, Mazda 3 and Peugeot 408 to the Audi A5 and A6, BMW 4 and 5 Series, Mercedes C- and E-Class and Alfa Romeo Giulia, up to the Mercedes S-Class and Porsche Panamera. Electric saloons include the Tesla Model 3, Volkswagen ID.7, BMW i4, Volvo ES90 and Porsche Taycan.

Question 2

Is a new electric saloon a good buy in Italy?

Accepted Answer

A saloon's low, smooth body helps an electric car's range at motorway speed, and by national law an electric car pays no bollo for five years, then a quarter of the rate. Lombardy and Piedmont exempt it for good.

Question 3

Do powerful new saloons pay the superbollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

Yes, any car over 185 kW, about 252 cv, pays the superbollo every year on top of the bollo: €20 for each kW above 185, reduced after five years. Many executive and sports saloons exceed it, so check the kW of the version you want.

Question 4

Is it better to buy a new or a used executive saloon?

Accepted Answer

A new executive saloon has the manufacturer's warranty and the specification you choose, but loses much of its value in the first years. A used one, often an ex-company car, costs far less for the same size and equipment.
