Question 1

Is a new SUV always four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

No, most compact and mid-size SUVs drive the front wheels only. All-wheel drive comes on more powerful versions, on many plug-in hybrids and twin-motor electrics, and on off-roaders such as the Land Rover Defender.

Question 2

Which new SUVs have seven seats?

Accepted Answer

Larger SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Peugeot 5008, Mercedes GLB and Land Rover Defender 110 offer seven seats, often as an option. Most compact SUVs seat five, so check the version before you choose.

Question 3

Do powerful new SUVs pay the superbollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

Yes, any car over 185 kW, about 252 cv, pays the superbollo every year on top of the bollo: €20 for each kW above 185, reduced after five years. Many large SUVs exceed it, so check the kW of the version you want.

Question 4

Does a new electric SUV pay the bollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

By national law an electric car is exempt for five years from first registration, then pays a quarter of the rate. Lombardy and Piedmont exempt it for good, and no superbollo is due while the bollo is not.
