Question 1

Which used Nissan Qashqai engine is the most reliable?

Accepted Answer

The 1.5 dCi diesel is the most common and lasts well if serviced on time, though its injectors and particulate filter need watching. Among petrols, the 1.3 DIG-T from 2018 is smoother than the earlier 1.2 DIG-T, which can burn oil.

Question 2

Which generation of Nissan Qashqai should I buy used?

Accepted Answer

The second generation, from 2014 and facelifted in 2017, offers the widest choice of engines and gearboxes. The third, from 2021, is more modern and electrified but has no diesel.

Question 3

What should I check on a used Nissan Qashqai with the Xtronic gearbox?

Accepted Answer

The Xtronic is a CVT, so on the test drive listen for whining and feel for judder when pulling away. Ask whether its fluid has been changed, as these gearboxes are sensitive to it.

Question 4

Is it worth buying a new Nissan Qashqai rather than a used one?

Accepted Answer

The new Qashqai comes as a 158 hp 1.3 mild hybrid, manual or automatic, 2WD or 4WD, or as the 190 hp e-POWER, from Acenta to Tekna Plus, with the manufacturer's warranty. A used one of the same generation shares its mechanicals.
