Question 1

What should I check on a used Opel Astra CDTI?

Accepted Answer

On a car driven mostly in town, check the particulate filter and EGR valve, which clog on short trips. On a 1.7 or 2.0 CDTI with the M32 six-speed gearbox, also listen for bearing whine.

Question 2

Can a used Opel Astra diesel enter Milan's Area B or Rome's Fascia Verde?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the Euro class: both zones already exclude older diesels and tighten the limits over the years. Check the Euro class on the Documento Unico against the city's current calendar before buying.

Question 3

Is the Opel Astra K 1.6 CDTI a good engine?

Accepted Answer

Yes for long distances: the 1.6 CDTI, nicknamed the Whisper Diesel, is far quieter than the 1.7 it replaced and economical on the motorway. It came in several outputs, with a manual or automatic gearbox.

Question 4

How much does a new Opel Astra diesel cost?

Accepted Answer

The new Astra diesel has a 130 hp engine with an automatic gearbox, as a hatchback or Sports Tourer, in Edition, GS and Ultimate trims, each at Opel's list price beside the used cars.
