Question 1

Does a petrol car pay more bollo than a diesel in Italy?

Accepted Answer

No, the bollo looks only at kW and Euro class, so a petrol and a diesel of equal power and class pay the same. The superbollo likewise applies to either above 185 kW.

Question 2

Which used petrol engines need a careful check?

Accepted Answer

Stellantis's 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder, used by Peugeot, Citroën, Opel and others, has a timing belt that runs in oil and can wear early, so ask when it was inspected or replaced. On any small turbo petrol, watch for oil consumption.

Question 3

Is a used petrol car better than a diesel in Italy?

Accepted Answer

For mostly urban driving and a low yearly mileage, usually yes: petrol is simpler and faces fewer traffic limits in cities such as Milan. A diesel still pays off over long motorway distances, where its lower consumption counts.

Question 4

Which new petrol cars are on sale in Italy?

Accepted Answer

Petrol versions run from the Dacia Sandero, Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Polo through the Mazda 3, Skoda Octavia and Cupra Formentor to the Porsche 911, many with mild-hybrid help. They come with manual or automatic gearboxes.
