Question 1

Which is the best engine for a used Peugeot 208?

Accepted Answer

For most buyers the turbo 1.2 PureTech of 100 or 110 hp is the best balance, lively enough for the motorway. The diesel only pays off for high mileage, and the e-208 suits drivers who can charge at home.

Question 2

What is the timing belt problem on the Peugeot 208 PureTech?

Accepted Answer

The turbo 1.2 PureTech has a timing belt that runs in oil and can wear early, shedding debris into the oil circuit. On a used 208, ask for proof the belt has been checked or replaced and that the specified oil was used.

Question 3

What is the difference between the first and second generation Peugeot 208?

Accepted Answer

The second generation, from 2019, sits on a new platform shared with the electric e-208 and has five doors only. The first, from 2012, also came as a three-door and as a petrol GTi.

Question 4

How much does a new Peugeot 208 cost?

Accepted Answer

The new 208 comes as a 100 hp Turbo petrol with a manual gearbox, as a Hybrid of 110 or 145 hp with the e-DCS6 dual-clutch automatic, and as the electric E-208 of 136 or 156 hp, up to the 281 hp GTi. Each version, from Style and Allure to GT, is listed at Peugeot's official price.
