Question 1

Which is the best engine for a used Peugeot 308?

Accepted Answer

On the second generation, the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 diesel is economical over long distances and the 1.2 PureTech 130 suits mixed driving. The plug-in hybrids of the third generation only pay off if you can charge at home.

Question 2

What problems does the Peugeot 308 have?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 PureTech's timing belt runs in oil and can wear early, so ask for proof it was checked or replaced. On BlueHDi diesels, check the AdBlue system and the particulate filter, which suffer on short town trips.

Question 3

What changed with the third-generation Peugeot 308?

Accepted Answer

The 308 launched in 2021 is longer, with the new lion badge, a digital i-Cockpit and plug-in hybrid versions; the electric e-308 followed in 2023. The second generation had only petrol and diesel engines.

Question 4

Is there a sporty Peugeot 308?

Accepted Answer

The second-generation 308 GTi, developed by Peugeot Sport with a 1.6 THP of 250 or 270 hp, is the sportiest. The GT versions are more common and gentler, with the look but not the GTi's chassis.
