Question 1

Is the Peugeot 1.2 PureTech engine reliable?

Accepted Answer

It is economical and lively, but the turbo version's timing belt runs in engine oil and can wear early if oil changes are stretched or the wrong oil is used. Ask for invoices for every oil change and for any belt replacement.

Question 2

What are the signs of a worn PureTech timing belt on a Peugeot?

Accepted Answer

An oil pressure warning, a hard brake pedal or rising oil consumption can mean belt debris is blocking the oil pump strainer or the brake vacuum pump. Have a Peugeot workshop check the belt before buying a high-mileage car.

Question 3

What should I check on a Peugeot with the 1.6 THP engine?

Accepted Answer

The 1.6 THP, fitted to the 207, 308, 3008 and RCZ among others, is known for timing-chain stretch and carbon build-up on the valves. Listen for a rattle on a cold start and ask about oil consumption.

Question 4

Which petrol engines does the new Peugeot range offer?

Accepted Answer

The new 208 and 2008 come with the 100 cv 1.2 Turbo and a manual gearbox, or as 110 or 145 cv Hybrid mild hybrids with the e-DCS6 dual-clutch. The 408, 3008 and 5008 use the 145 cv Hybrid and the Rifter a 110 cv 1.2 with a manual, each at Peugeot's list price.
