Question 1

Which Porsche 911 generation is the best used buy?

Accepted Answer

The 997.2, from 2008, pairs a direct-injection engine without the IMS bearing with the first PDK gearbox. The 991 and 992 are more refined and modern, while the 996 is the cheapest way in if its bearing has been dealt with.

Question 2

What is the IMS bearing problem on a Porsche 911?

Accepted Answer

The intermediate shaft bearing of the 996 and 997 Carrera engines up to 2008 can fail and destroy the engine. Ask whether it has been replaced with an upgraded bearing; the Turbo and GT3 of those years use a different engine without the weakness.

Question 3

Does a used Porsche 911 pay the superbollo?

Accepted Answer

Every 911 from the 996 on exceeds 185 kW, so it pays €20 a year for each kW above, cut to 60% five years after construction, 30% after ten and 15% after fifteen. A 911 more than twenty years old pays none.

Question 4

Which versions does the new Porsche 911 come in?

Accepted Answer

The new 911 comes as Carrera, Carrera T, S, 4S, GTS and Turbo S, as a coupé, Cabriolet or Targa, plus the GT3, with PDK or, on the Carrera T and GT3, a manual. Power runs from 394 to 711 cv, every version petrol.
