Question 1

Which Porsche 911 engines have the IMS bearing problem?

Accepted Answer

The M96 and M97 flat-sixes of the 996 and of the 997 built up to 2008 have an intermediate shaft bearing that can fail, and some also suffer bore scoring. The GT3 and Turbo, with their Mezger engines, and every 911 from the 997.2 are free of it.

Question 2

Does a used Porsche 911 pay the superbollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

Yes, every 911 from the 996 onwards has more than 185 kW, so it pays €20 for each kW above that on top of the bollo. The surcharge falls to 60% after five years, 30% after ten and 15% after fifteen, and ends after twenty.

Question 3

Turbocharged or naturally aspirated: which used Porsche 911 Carrera?

Accepted Answer

Up to the 991.1, the Carrera has a naturally aspirated flat-six that loves high revs; from the 991.2 in 2015 it has a 3.0 twin-turbo with more torque low down. The GT3 kept a naturally aspirated engine throughout.

Question 4

How much does a new Porsche 911 cost?

Accepted Answer

The new 911 is offered as Carrera, Carrera T, S, 4S and GTS in coupé, Cabriolet and Targa form, plus GT3 and Turbo S, from 394 cv to 711 cv, with PDK or a manual on the Carrera T and GT3. Each version is shown at Porsche's list price.
