What should I check on a used manual Renault diesel?

Listen for knocking at idle and feel for vibration when pulling away: many 1.5 and 1.6 dCi engines have a dual-mass flywheel that wears with town use. It is usually replaced together with the clutch.

Is a manual Renault cheaper to keep than an EDC automatic?

Generally yes: a new clutch costs less than repairing the EDC dual-clutch, and the manual is simpler. The EDC eases town traffic but needs a careful test drive on a used car.

Can I still buy a new manual Renault?

Yes: the Clio and Captur TCe 115, the Captur and Symbioz Eco-G 120 with LPG, the Kangoo and the diesel Trafic are sold with a manual gearbox. Every hybrid and electric Renault is automatic.
