Is an ex-rental saloon a good buy in Italy?

It can be: long-term rental cars are usually serviced on schedule and sold after a few years. Expect high mileage, and check the bodywork, interior and tyres, which renters tend to care for less.

Saloon or hatchback: which is more practical?

A saloon's boot is often as large, but its narrower opening makes bulky loads harder to fit. In exchange the separate boot keeps the cabin quieter and the luggage out of sight.

Does a powerful saloon pay the superbollo in Italy?

Only above 185 kW, about 252 hp, so ordinary diesel and petrol versions pay none. The sports versions of executive saloons often exceed it, with the surcharge cut to 60% after five years.

How much does a new saloon cost in Italy?

New saloons range from the Audi A3 and Mazda3 saloons to the Mercedes S-Class, with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric versions. Each version's list price is shown beside the used saloons.
