Question 1

Can a used Smart Fortwo drive in Rome's Fascia Verde?

Accepted Answer

It depends on its Euro class: the Fascia Verde bars the most polluting classes, with limits that widen over the years and hit older diesels first. An electric Fortwo is not affected.

Question 2

How much is the bollo on a Smart Fortwo in Lazio?

Accepted Answer

Lazio charges the national rate plus 10%, on the car's kW and Euro class, so a low-powered Fortwo pays little. Paying by bank direct debit earns a 10% discount, and an electric Fortwo follows the national five-year exemption.

Question 3

How much IPT do you pay on a used Smart Fortwo in Rome?

Accepted Answer

The province of Rome applies the maximum 30% surcharge to the national IPT tariff. The 61 and 71 hp Fortwos stay within 53 kW and pay the flat amount, plus about €101 of fees.

Question 4

Is an electric Smart Fortwo practical in Rome?

Accepted Answer

For town use, yes: the EQ Fortwo's small battery covers daily trips in the city but not long runs beyond the GRA. Check where you can charge, at home or on the street, before buying.
