Did the old Smart Fortwo have a manual gearbox?

No, the 1998–2014 Fortwo had only an automated gearbox, with no clutch pedal. A true manual with a clutch pedal arrived with the Fortwo of 2014.

Is a manual Smart Fortwo better than the twinamic?

The manual is simpler and cheaper to repair, and suits drivers who want direct control. The twinamic dual-clutch is more relaxed in city traffic, where most Smarts spend their lives.

Is there a manual electric Smart?

No, every electric Smart, from the EQ Fortwo to the #1, has a single-speed transmission and no clutch. A manual Smart always has a petrol engine, or a diesel on the first Forfour.
