Is the Smart Forfour a saloon?

No, it is a five-door, four-seat hatchback, listed as a berlina in Italy like most closed cars. The Forfour from 2014 shares its platform and rear engine with the Renault Twingo.

What should I check on a used Smart Fortwo coupé?

Check that the plastic body panels match in colour and fit, as they unbolt and are often replaced after knocks. On the 2007–2014 car, also test the softouch gearbox carefully in slow traffic.

Does a Smart Forfour pay more bollo than a Fortwo?

No, the bollo depends only on kW and Euro class, so a Fortwo and a Forfour with the same engine pay the same in the same region. The Forfour's extra size and weight change nothing.
