Question 1

How much superbollo does a used sports car pay?

Accepted Answer

€20 a year for each kW above 185, reduced to 60% five years after construction, 30% after ten, 15% after fifteen and nothing after twenty. A 250 kW car built in 2019 therefore pays €780 a year until 2029.

Question 2

Does an older sports car pay less bollo in Italy?

Accepted Answer

Cars aged 20 to 29 with a certificato di rilevanza storica on the registration document pay half the bollo. From 30 years, if not used professionally, no bollo is due, only a small flat fee when driven on public roads.

Question 3

What should I check on a used sports car?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the service history at a specialist, check tyres and brakes, which wear quickly with hard driving, and look for signs of track days. Insurance for powerful cars can be costly, so get a quote first.

Question 4

How much does a new sports car cost in Italy?

Accepted Answer

New sports cars run from the BMW 2 Series and 4 Series coupés and the Ford Mustang to the Porsche 911, Mercedes-AMG GT and Maserati GranTurismo, petrol, hybrid and electric. Each version's list price sits beside the used ones.
