Question 1

Why are there so few recent diesel Toyota cars?

Accepted Answer

Toyota phased diesel out of its cars in the late 2010s and replaced it with full hybrids in the Yaris, Corolla, C-HR and RAV4. Recent used diesels are therefore mostly the Land Cruiser, the Hilux pick-up and the Proace vans and people carriers.

Question 2

Is the Toyota Proace built by Toyota?

Accepted Answer

The Proace and Proace City are built with Stellantis and share their bodies and diesel engines with the Peugeot, Citroën and Opel vans of the same size. Parts and servicing are therefore easy to find across Italy.

Question 3

Can a used Toyota diesel enter Milan's Area B or Rome's Fascia Verde?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the Euro class on the Documento Unico. Both cities bar older diesels and tighten the rules in stages, so check the current calendar before buying a Euro 4 or Euro 5 car.

Question 4

Which new Toyotas are sold with a diesel engine in Italy?

Accepted Answer

The Proace City and Proace, as vans and people carriers, and the Land Cruiser off-roader keep a diesel engine. Gearboxes are manual or automatic depending on the model and version.
