Question 1

Can you take a car to Pantelleria or the Egadi Islands from Trapani?

Accepted Answer

Yes, ferries from Trapani carry cars to Pantelleria and the Egadi Islands, while the faster hydrofoils take passengers only. A car owned by an island resident pays the same bollo and IPT as anywhere else in the province.

Question 2

How much is the bollo on a used car in Sicily?

Accepted Answer

Sicily uses the national base rates on kW and Euro class: €2.58 per kW up to 100 kW and €3.87 above for a Euro 4 to 6 car. LPG, methane and other dual-fuel or alternative-fuel cars pay a flat €2.58 per kW.

Question 3

Do electric cars pay the bollo in Trapani?

Accepted Answer

A new electric, plug-in hybrid or hydrogen car registered in Sicily from 2026 to 2028 pays no bollo for five years. Older used electrics keep the national rule: free for five years from first registration, then a quarter of the rate.

Question 4

Is it worth buying a used car on the mainland for Trapani?

Accepted Answer

Only for a car that is hard to find in Sicily: it must cross the Strait of Messina and then drive the length of the island. IPT is the same either way, because it follows the buyer's province.
