Question 1

Can you drive a car in Venice?

Accepted Answer

Not in the historic centre: the road from the mainland ends at Piazzale Roma and Tronchetto, where there are car parks. The Lido has roads of its own and is reached by car ferry from Tronchetto.

Question 2

How much is the bollo on a used car in Venice?

Accepted Answer

Veneto collects the bollo itself, at ten per cent above the national base: €2.84 per kW up to 100 kW and €4.26 above for Euro 4 to 6. A Euro 6 petrol car of 110 kW pays €326.60 a year.

Question 3

How much does it cost to transfer a used car in Venice?

Accepted Answer

The buyer pays IPT at their own province's tariff, set by the car's kW, plus €101.20 of fees and stamp duty. The deed is authenticated at an ACI office, the Motorizzazione or an agency, and the transfer recorded in the PRA within 60 days.

Question 4

Do you pay IPT when you sell your car to a dealer in Venice?

Accepted Answer

No, a private sale to a dealer who trades in used cars, the minivoltura, pays no IPT and a reduced ACI fee of €13.50. The tax falls on whoever buys the car from the dealer.
