What problems does the Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI have?

The 2.0 TDI is tough, but on cars used only in town the particulate filter and EGR valve tend to clog. On Euro 6 cars, also ask about the condition of the AdBlue system.

Should I avoid a Golf TDI affected by dieselgate?

The Euro 5 EA189 engines in Golfs built up to 2015 received a software update under a recall. Check with a dealer that it was done; it generally causes no driving problems.

Is a Golf diesel better with a DSG or a manual gearbox?

The DSG on the more powerful 2.0 TDIs is a wet-clutch unit that handles the torque well, provided its oil was changed on time. The manual costs less to keep and is more common on 115 hp versions.

How much does a new Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI cost?

The new diesel Golf is sold with the 2.0 TDI at 115 hp with a manual or 150 hp with DSG, hatchback or Variant, each trim at Volkswagen's list price beside the used cars.
