Question 1

What problems does a used Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI have?

Accepted Answer

On high-mileage cars check the particulate filter, the EGR valve and, on Euro 6 versions, the AdBlue system. Motorway use suits the TDI well, so a former company car with long runs is often in better shape than its mileage suggests.

Question 2

Which Volkswagen Passat generation is the best buy used?

Accepted Answer

The eighth, from 2014 and updated in 2019, has the MQB platform, a large boot and modern driver aids. The seventh, from 2010, costs less but is mostly Euro 5 diesel, which city traffic limits increasingly exclude.

Question 3

What is the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack?

Accepted Answer

It is the Variant raised slightly, with plastic body protection and usually 4Motion all-wheel drive, suited to mountain roads and snow. It shares its TDI engines with the ordinary estate.

Question 4

Is a new Volkswagen Passat worth it over a used one?

Accepted Answer

The new Passat is an estate only, with a 150 hp eTSI mild hybrid, the 2.0 TDI from 122 to 193 hp with optional 4Motion, or the eHybrid plug-in of 204 or 272 hp, all DSG. It brings the factory warranty and over 100 km of electric range on the eHybrid.
