Question 1

Is a manual Volkswagen T-Cross better than a DSG?

Accepted Answer

The manual is simpler, with no dry-clutch mechatronic unit to worry about, and usually cheaper second-hand. The DSG suits heavy town traffic but needs checking for judder when pulling away.

Question 2

Does the manual Volkswagen T-Cross have five or six gears?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the engine: the 95 hp 1.0 TSI has a five-speed gearbox, the 110–115 hp a six-speed. The sixth gear lowers revs and noise on the motorway.

Question 3

What should I check on a used manual Volkswagen T-Cross?

Accepted Answer

Test the clutch on a hill start: a high bite point or slipping under load means it is near replacement, common on cars driven mostly in city traffic. Gear changes should be light and precise.

Question 4

Can you still buy a new Volkswagen T-Cross with a manual gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the new T-Cross 1.0 TSI is sold with a manual gearbox at 95 or 115 hp, in trims from Trend and Life to Style and R-Line Plus, each at Volkswagen's list price beside the used cars.
