Question 1

What problems does the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI have?

Accepted Answer

The 2.0 TDI is durable, but a Tiguan used mostly in town tends to clog its particulate filter and EGR valve. On Euro 6 versions with AdBlue, also ask whether the SCR system and its sensors have needed work.

Question 2

Is a first-generation Tiguan TDI affected by dieselgate?

Accepted Answer

First-generation Tiguans with the Euro 5 EA189 2.0 TDI were part of the dieselgate recall and received a software update. Check with a Volkswagen dealer that it was done; it generally causes no driving problems.

Question 3

Is a Volkswagen Tiguan diesel with 4Motion worth it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you face snow, mountain roads or towing, and 4Motion is common on the more powerful TDIs. It adds weight and an all-wheel-drive coupling whose oil needs changing at intervals, so check it was serviced.

Question 4

How much does a new Volkswagen Tiguan diesel cost?

Accepted Answer

The new Tiguan diesel has the 2.0 TDI with 150 hp and front drive or 193 hp with 4Motion, always with DSG, in trims from Life to R-Line Plus. Each version can be compared at Volkswagen's list price beside the used cars.
