Question 1

Which is the best petrol engine for a used Volkswagen?

Accepted Answer

The 1.0 and 1.5 TSI from the belt-driven generation are the safest choice for everyday use. The early chain-driven 1.2 and 1.4 TSI, built up to about 2012, cost less but need checking for a stretched chain.

Question 2

What is ACT on the Volkswagen 1.5 TSI?

Accepted Answer

ACT shuts down two of the four cylinders at light load to save fuel, on the 1.4 and 1.5 TSI. It works unnoticed, and the engine runs on all four again as soon as you accelerate.

Question 3

Does a used Volkswagen Golf GTI or Golf R pay the superbollo?

Accepted Answer

A Golf R from 2010 on does, as it is above 185 kW. A Golf GTI may sit either side of the threshold depending on its version, so check the kW in field P.2 of the Documento Unico.
