Question 1

Volkswagen up! or Polo: which used small Volkswagen should I buy?

Accepted Answer

The up! is shorter and easier to park, with a three-cylinder 1.0 petrol engine, and suits town driving. The Polo is roomier, has a wider choice of TSI and TDI engines and is more at ease on the motorway.

Question 2

Is a used Volkswagen e-up! or ID.3 a good choice in Italy?

Accepted Answer

The e-up! has a small battery and suits town use, while the ID.3 has more range for longer trips. Both are exempt from the bollo for five years under national law, and for good in Lombardy and Piedmont; ask for a battery health report.

Question 3

What should I check on a used Polo with a DSG gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Most petrol Polos with an automatic use the seven-speed dry-clutch DSG, which can judder when pulling away or creeping in traffic once worn. Test it in town traffic, and ask whether the clutch or mechatronic unit has been replaced.

Question 4

How much does a new Volkswagen Polo cost?

Accepted Answer

The new Polo is sold with petrol engines, beside the Golf with petrol, hybrid and diesel versions, the sporty GTI and R, and the electric ID.3 and ID. Polo. Each version is shown at Volkswagen's list price next to the used cars, with manual or DSG gearboxes.
